I met Art Lilly on a raft up in Annapolis in 1985. I tied up the eighth boat from the bulkhead. As I made my way toward the bulkhead, I came across Art on the sixth boat out. We began talking and telling stories of going fast and taking "bad hops". That was the beginning of a long and on-going friendship.

In 1985 we first traveled to Key West for the World Championships. Art turned to me at one point and said, "Jimmy this is me". He returned next year in competition after securing a Kilo Record and began his long and illustrious racing career.

I continued to work, learn, race when I could, and wait for my chance to compete on a national level.

Without my friend Art I don't think I would have ever had a chance to do any of this.
I will be forever grateful.
