In the Bahamas 1998 SBI National Championship deciding race, Martin gave me the chance I had been waiting for to drive for him. I had never even stood in his boat until that day when we went for one test lap. After we ran around the Paradise Island race course, I asked Martin "to hold it wide open so I can see how hard she will turn." He did, and I was ready.


Martin and I had an instantaneous connection, running a boat together as if we were reading each others mind. We had some really good times and won races. I was proud to be part of Reggie's A Team in Key West 1998. Martin and I won one of the two races and earned a 2nd Place at the Worlds.


In 1999 Todd Welling bought the boat and ran APBA races with Martin. Martin and I later ran SBI races in the Mastry boat. Our best finishes were third place. We blew a drive in Key West and went swimming in St. Pete. You can't win them all and while our record was not impressive, we had a great time.


2000 Todd Welling ran a two boat team Voyager. Ron Umlandt throttled and I drove  F2-1.
